Nutritional benefits and drivers for fruit and vegetable supplements

Dietary supplements can serve as a tool to fill nutritional gaps caused by modern lifestyle demands and changes in agricultural quality. Fruit and vegetable supplements provide concentrated plant-based nutrients, including vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and phytonutrients, which can support immune function and energy production.

Several factors contribute to the need for supplementation. Modern agricultural practices and significant soil erosion—estimated at a loss of 75 billion tonnes of land annually—have resulted in crops that may contain fewer natural minerals than those grown in previous decades. Additionally, the prevalence of pre-packaged meals and fast food often leads to diets that lack a full spectrum of nutrients. The transit and storage time of grocery items can also lead to a loss of nutritional value in fresh produce. While supplements are intended to complement a balanced diet rather than replace whole foods, they offer a way to maintain consistent nutrient intake amidst these challenges.
