Nutritional benefits of duck meat and food safety tips for ground meat

Health experts are providing guidance on nutritional choices and food safety regarding meat consumption. Duck meat is highlighted as a nutrient-dense alternative to beef, offering significant amounts of protein, iron, and essential minerals such as potassium, magnesium, zinc, selenium, and phosphorus. For instance, 100g of skinless duck meat provides over 20g of protein. However, experts note that fat intake can increase if the skin is consumed, and duck meat should not be used as a self-prescribed treatment for anemia.

Regarding food safety, advice has been issued for households frequently using pre-ground meat. Because ground meat makes it difficult to assess freshness, origin, and hygiene, it is recommended to purchase whole cuts of meat and grind them at home or request immediate grinding at the point of sale. This practice helps prevent the growth of microorganisms that can occur when meat has a larger surface area and has been stored for extended periods after being processed.
