Seasonal autumn foods provide essential nutrients for health

Autumn offers a variety of seasonal foods that are rich in essential nutrients, including fiber, vitamins, and antioxidants. Experts highlight several key items to incorporate into a balanced diet during this season.

Vegetables such as pumpkin, sweet potatoes, beets, and Brussels sprouts are noted for their high fiber content and specific health benefits. Pumpkin and sweet potatoes are excellent sources of beta-carotene, which the body converts to vitamin A for immune and eye health. Beets contain nitrates that may help improve blood flow and lower blood pressure, while Brussels sprouts provide vitamins C and K.

Fruits like apples, plums, and oranges also play a vital role. Apples provide pectin for digestion, while plums are recognized for their ability to support intestinal transit due to their fiber and sorbitol content. Oranges are a significant source of vitamin C, which supports the immune system and collagen production. Consuming seasonal produce not only ensures higher nutritional value but can also be more cost-effective and environmentally sustainable.
