Nutritional comparison of dairy products and lactoferrin supplements
A comparison of various dairy products and lactoferrin supplements highlights different nutritional profiles for consumers. In the dairy category, skyr, yogurt, and curd cheese (twaróg) serve different dietary needs. Skyr is noted for its high protein content (approximately 11g per 100g), low fat (0.2g per 100g), and high calcium levels. Curd cheese is characterized by having the highest protein content, while yogurt provides lactic acid bacteria. Yogurt is identified as the most affordable and accessible option.
Regarding lactoferrin supplements, a ranking of seven products based on label claims and cost was conducted. The top-rated products, based on the lowest cost per 100mg of declared lactoferrin, include IHS Lactoferrin and Pharmovit Laktoferyna 200mg. These supplements are cow's milk proteins and are not suitable for individuals with milk allergies. It is noted that in the EU, there are no approved health claims for lactoferrin.
