Nutritional experts recommend fish consumption for brain and body health
Dietary experts recommend consuming fish at least twice a week to support healthy nutrition. Specialist Dietitian Banu Doğanlar from Medical Park TEM Hospital emphasizes that fish is a vital source of high-quality protein, vitamins B12 and D, iodine, selenium, and omega-3 fatty acids.
To maximize health benefits, it is recommended to include fatty fish such as salmon, sardines, mackerel, or anchovies in at least one of these weekly meals. Rotating different types of fish is advised to increase nutrient diversity and reduce exposure to pollutants specific to certain species.
Beyond fish, several other foods contribute to brain health and cognitive function. Leafy greens like cabbage, asparagus, and broccoli provide fiber, folate, and lutein. Tomatoes offer antioxidant properties through lycopene, while walnuts and blueberries provide omega-3s and flavonoids. Moderate consumption of coffee and tea may also support brain metabolism through phytonutrients and flavonoids.
