Nutritional guidance on plant proteins and Vitamin B12 intake

Nutritional experts suggest that plant-based proteins, such as lentils and beans, can serve as effective alternatives to meat when combined with grains like rice. While 100 grams of cooked legumes provide approximately 7 to 9 grams of protein, pairing them with cereals can create a complete and satiating meal. These foods are also noted for their high fiber content, which helps stabilize blood sugar and promote satiety.

Regarding Vitamin B12, health guidelines emphasize that reliable natural sources are almost exclusively animal-based. The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Ernährung (DGE) recommends a daily intake of 4 micrograms for adults. Prolonged deficiency can lead to serious health issues, including fatigue, paralysis, or ocular damage. Experts warn against relying on certain algae or spirulina as primary sources, as they may not meet the body's actual absorption needs.
