Nutritionist debunks myth that eating black foods prevents gray hair

Nutritionist Cao Man-man advises that consuming black-colored foods, such as black sesame or black beans, does not directly restore hair color or prevent graying. The common belief that eating foods of a certain color will benefit the corresponding body part lacks nutritional basis.

Gray hair can be caused by various factors, including aging, genetics, chronic stress, smoking, medical conditions, or nutritional deficiencies. Rather than seeking a single superfood, experts recommend a diverse diet to support hair growth and pigmentation.

Key nutrients for hair health include:

Protein: Since hair is primarily composed of keratin, adequate protein from sources like eggs, chicken, fish, tofu, and soy is essential.

Iron: Crucial for red blood cell formation and oxygen transport, iron can be found in liver, blood, and red amaranth.

Other important nutrients include Vitamin C, B vitamins, and Vitamin E.
