Nutritionists offer advice on breakfast composition and mineral absorption
Nutritionists are offering guidance on improving breakfast habits to manage hunger and nutrient absorption. To prevent mid-morning hunger, nutritionist Oliver Goble suggests a 30-second breakfast check focusing on three elements: protein to slow digestion, fiber to add volume and stabilize energy, and a balance of nutrients to avoid the quick energy crashes caused by refined carbohydrates and sugars.
Additionally, experts advise against consuming coffee or black tea immediately after breakfast. These beverages contain tannins, which can bind to non-heme iron found in plant-based foods like spinach and beans, hindering its absorption into the bloodstream. To ensure optimal mineral intake, specialists recommend consuming coffee, tea, and calcium-rich dairy products at least one to two hours away from main meals.
