Nutritionists recommend balanced diets and nutrient-dense foods
Nutritionists emphasize that a healthy diet does not require expensive or trendy products, but rather focuses on diversity, moderation, and balanced choices. Following the Harvard healthy plate model, experts recommend that half of a meal consist of vegetables, one quarter of protein, and one quarter of carbohydrates.
In Moldova, public health data indicates that only approximately 40% of people consume the recommended five portions of fruits and vegetables daily, with even lower rates among first-grade children. Nutritionist Sergiu Munteanu notes that a portion can be as small as a medium apple, a banana, or a single tomato.
Additionally, nuts and seeds are highlighted as nutrient-dense foods that support long-term health. They provide unsaturated fats, plant proteins, fiber, and essential vitamins and minerals. Regular consumption of nuts, such as walnuts and almonds, has been linked to reduced cardiovascular risk, improved blood vessel function, and better glycemic control.
