Nutritionists warn against common weight loss mistakes

Experts and nutritionists warn that extreme dieting methods intended for rapid weight loss can often lead to counterproductive results. According to nutritionist María José Crispin from Clínica Menorca, overly restrictive diets can cause the loss of muscle mass and water rather than fat, which may ultimately slow down the metabolism.

Key mistakes identified include following overly strict diets that eliminate entire food groups, focusing solely on food intake while neglecting physical activity, and completely removing fats from the diet. Experts suggest that sustainable weight loss requires long-term lifestyle changes rather than temporary restrictions.

To maintain results, specialists recommend a balanced diet including vegetables, fruits, proteins, whole grains, and healthy fats such as those found in olive oil, salmon, and avocado. Additionally, combining cardiovascular exercise with strength training is advised to preserve muscle mass and improve overall conditioning.
