Stiftung Warentest tests nut-nougat spreads, Nutella places third
Stiftung Warentest has conducted a comprehensive evaluation of 18 nut-nougat spreads, testing them for flavor, nutritional value, and contaminants. The results show that market leader Nutella did not secure a top position, placing third with an overall grade of 2.2, primarily due to less favorable nutritional values.
Two products shared the top overall grade of 2.0. The first is the dark hazelnut cream ‘Kräm – Herr Eichhorn pur’ from the Goldhelm chocolate manufacturer in Thuringia, which received a perfect 1.0 in sensory testing due to its high hazelnut content of over 50 percent. The second winner is Aldi’s ‘Nusskati’ nut-nougat cream, which was noted for its strong cocoa flavor and significantly lower price point of 0.50 Euro per 100 grams.
Out of the 18 products tested, 12 received a ‘good’ rating, including several vegan and organic options. Four products were rated as ‘satisfactory’ and two as ‘sufficient’. Notably, the only sugar-reduced product in the test received one of the lowest ratings.
