Nutritionists warn against misleading food marketing labels
Nutritionists and health experts are warning consumers that marketing terms on food packaging such as ‘fit’, ‘protein’, ‘sugar-free’, and ‘organic’ do not inherently guarantee nutritional quality. Experts note that consumers often pay a premium for branding and packaging rather than actual nutrient density.
To make healthier and more affordable choices, specialists recommend prioritizing whole foods like vegetables, fruits, eggs, legumes, and seasonal produce. While processed protein products can be part of a routine in moderation, they should not replace varied, minimally processed meals.
Specific health risks are associated with certain common dietary habits. High intake of processed meats, sodas, and instant soups can be detrimental to kidney health due to hidden additives. Specifically, industrial phosphates and high sodium levels in processed foods can strain the kidneys and blood vessels more significantly than natural sources of these elements found in whole foods.
