Nutritionists warn of risks regarding popular protein-enriched products
The rising popularity of protein-enriched products, such as bars, pasta, gelato, and protein water, has prompted health experts to advise caution regarding excessive consumption. While protein is essential for muscle maintenance, hormone production, and immune function, experts emphasize that nutritional needs must be assessed individually based on age, weight, physical activity, and health status.
A recent Atlas/Intel survey indicates that 30% of Brazilians are influenced by protein labels when purchasing products, and 37.9% are motivated to consume these items by social media.
Nutrologist Monize Aydar notes that while there is no strict maximum limit for the body to absorb or metabolize protein, there is a limit to how much can effectively stimulate muscle protein synthesis. For most adults, maximizing muscle synthesis typically requires approximately 0.25 to 0.40 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight per meal, generally totaling 20 to 40 grams of high-quality protein.
