Nuuk and Nunavut ports sign Arctic maritime agreement

The Port of Nuuk and proponents of deepwater port projects in Nunavut have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to enhance cooperation between maritime infrastructure assets in Greenland and Nunavut.

The agreement involves Sikuki Nuuk Harbour A/S, the operator of the Port of Nuuk; Qikiqtaaluk AEDC, which is proposing the Qikiqtarjuaq Deep Sea Port Project; and West Kitikmeot Resources Corp., the proponent of the Grays Bay Road and Port Project. The partnership aims to share Arctic port expertise and explore cooperation in areas such as maritime resilience, emergency response, vessel support, supply chains, infrastructure, and environmental protection.

Announced during a trade mission by Nunavut Tunngavik Inc., the MOU seeks to build a more resilient Arctic maritime network. The collaboration leverages shared Inuit culture and history while addressing broader economic and security interests between Canada and the Kingdom of Denmark, particularly regarding the growing importance of the Northwest Passage.
