Nuvacore seeks $2.5 billion valuation in chip startup funding
Nuvacore, a microchip startup only six months old, is reportedly raising hundreds of millions of dollars to develop a new central processing unit (CPU) designed for data centers. According to sources familiar with the matter, the company is targeting a market valuation of approximately $2.5 billion.
The startup aims to address the rising demand for high-capacity processing required to power AI chatbots and autonomous AI software, often referred to as agents. While GPUs dominate much of the AI landscape, CPUs remain essential for managing network traffic and executing system logic.
Nuvacore has not yet released a finished product. The company is employing an unconventional design strategy by building core chip functionality before committing to a specific architecture, such as x86—used by Intel and AMD—or Arm, which is utilized by Amazon and Microsoft. This approach is intended to allow engineers to optimize designs without the limitations of existing architectures.
