NVE grants Area Nett permission for power line construction in Finnmark
The Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE) has granted Area Nett permission to construct a 132 kilovolt power line between Skaidi and Smørfjord in Finnmark. The project includes expanding the Smørfjord transformer station and dismantling parts of the existing 66 kV line between Smørfjord and Lakselv.
This infrastructure development is intended to support the 420 kV power line being built by Statnett between Skaidi and Lebesby. According to NVE Section Manager Ingrid Myrtveit, the upgrades are necessary to increase grid capacity and ensure supply security by maintaining dual supply routes to the Smørfjord transformer station.
The new 132 kV line will span 18 kilometers, running from the Skaidi transformer station in Hammerfest municipality to the Smørfjord transformer station in Porsanger municipality. Construction is subject to the approval of a detailed plan by NVE, which must address impacts on reindeer husbandry, nature, and vulnerable species.
