NVIDIA accused of greenwashing as Scope 3 emissions rise 725%
A report by Greenpeace International and a coalition of environmental organizations alleges that NVIDIA has engaged in greenwashing regarding its environmental impact. The analysis claims that the company’s Scope 3 emissions—indirect emissions from the supply chain and product use—have increased by 725% since 2020.
According to the briefing, Greenpeace estimates that undeclared emissions resulting from the electricity consumption of NVIDIA’s chips could reach up to 21 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent in 2025. This figure is approximately double what the company has reported. The report highlights that while NVIDIA markets its technology as a solution to the climate crisis, the massive scale of its data center segment, which accounts for 92.5% of its revenue, drives a significant and growing carbon footprint through its global value chain.
