NVIDIA and Firebird expand AI infrastructure in Kazakhstan

NVIDIA and US-based AI infrastructure company Firebird are expanding artificial intelligence computing capacity in Kazakhstan. Firebird has secured a U.S. export license for 45,000 NVIDIA Grace Blackwell GPUs to support a large-scale project in the country.

The first phase of the project is currently under construction at Data Center Valley in the Ekibastuz region, in partnership with Kazakhtelecom. Commercial operations for this initial phase are targeted for the third quarter of 2027. A planned second phase could increase the total AI infrastructure capacity to approximately 500 megawatts, with long-term expansion targets for the Data Center Valley reaching 1 GW.

The announcement follows a visit to Astana by NVIDIA founder and CEO Jensen Huang, who met with President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. Kazakhtelecom has already deployed several hundred NVIDIA H200 and B300 chips in Astana and Almaty, with plans to install more than 1,000 additional GPUs at Data Center Valley and over 1,000 NVIDIA Vera Rubin chips in the Ekibastuz region during 2027.
