Nvidia and tech coalition propose AI security flight recorders
A coalition of more than 120 technology companies, including Nvidia, Hugging Face, and CrowdStrike, has proposed the Shared AI Findings Exchange (SAFE) to improve artificial intelligence security. The program aims to create a system for reporting AI agent incidents similar to aviation flight recorders.
Inspired by NASA’s Aviation Safety Reporting System, the SAFE proposal suggests that AI agents be equipped with digital black boxes to record their actions. This would allow cybersecurity experts to analyze accidents and determine appropriate industry controls. The initiative seeks to foster an open community discussion where organizations can confidentially learn from security incidents and near misses to strengthen the broader AI ecosystem.
The proposed framework includes specific notification timelines: members would alert affected organizations immediately, file a confidential report within four business days, and release initial reports within 30 days when appropriate. Government bodies would participate as “non-controlling observers.”
