NVIDIA App update enables AI agent control by default
A recent update to the NVIDIA App (version 11.0.9.565) has introduced a local Model Context Protocol (MCP) server that allows compatible AI agents to control the application via natural-language requests. The feature enables assistants such as Hermes, OpenClaw, or Perplexity to perform tasks like finding installed games, applying graphics settings, and managing ShadowPlay recording.
Users and industry figures have raised concerns because the setting is enabled by default upon updating. Critics, including game designer Agustín Cordes, have characterized the feature as a potential security risk and a privacy invasion due to the permissive rights granted to AI agents. The connection allows agents to access controls for screenshots, instant replay, recording, performance statistics, and, on supported laptops, power settings like Battery Boost and Whisper Mode.
To disable the feature, users can navigate to Settings within the NVIDIA App, select Features, locate the “Connect Agents & Apps” section, and toggle off “Allow AI agents to control NVIDIA App.”
