Nvidia RTX 50 Super GDDR7 memory launch delay graphics cards

Nvidia's upcoming RTX 50 Super series, including the RTX 5080 Super, RTX 5070 Super and RTX 5070 Ti Super, is reportedly ready for production and has already reached board partners. However, the company has postponed the retail launch indefinitely.

The delay is attributed to the high price of the new 3‑GB GDDR7 memory chips required for the cards. A single 3‑GB chip costs about US$60‑70, roughly three times the price of the older 2‑GB modules at US$20, pushing production costs up by several hundred euros per card. Nvidia also expects higher power draw, with the RTX 5080 Super projected to consume up to 415 W. No official comment has been released by Nvidia.

The decision reflects Nvidia's choice to avoid launching the cards at thin or negative margins rather than risk selling at a loss, even as the hardware is complete and has been supplied to partners such as Asus, MSI and Gigabyte.
