Nvidia RTX 50 SUPER launch delayed by soaring GDDR7 memory costs

Nvidia has completed development of its RTX 50 SUPER graphics‑card line, built on the Blackwell architecture and slated to include the RTX 5080 SUPER, RTX 5070 SUPER, RTX 5070 Ti SUPER and the entry‑level RTX 5050 with 9 GB VRAM. At least one board‑partner has already received hardware samples.

Production and sales have been put on hold because the 3 GB GDDR7 memory chips required for the cards now cost $60‑70 each—three to four times the price of 2 GB chips. The inflated component cost would add hundreds of dollars to the GPU price, prompting Nvidia to cancel the RTX 5050 9 GB model and delay the entire SUPER series until memory prices stabilise. The company may instead re‑introduce the RTX 3060 12 GB for the entry market. The issue reflects a broader volatility in the DRAM market, where high‑density modules are in short supply and expensive due to competing demand from AI and server applications.
