NVIDIA discloses $21 billion stake in SpaceX amid AI financing scrutiny

NVIDIA Corporation has disclosed a significant stake in SpaceX valued at approximately $21 billion as of the end of the second quarter. This position originated from a $10 billion investment in Elon Musk’s xAI during a January 2026 funding round, prior to SpaceX’s $1.25 trillion acquisition of xAI.

Elon Musk confirmed that SpaceX will use NVIDIA chips exclusively for its AI data centers and expects a significant allocation of the company’s next-generation Vera Rubin GPUs next year. SpaceX aims to expand its computing capacity from 2 gigawatts to nearly 10 gigawatts by the end of 2027.

Investors are also monitoring NVIDIA’s growing financial entanglements and circular financing models. This includes a commitment to provide up to $105 billion for credit and compute for an OpenAI data center in Ohio, built by SoftBank-backed SB Energy. Additionally, NVIDIA has reached a $500 billion deal with financial institutions including Goldman Sachs, BlackRock, and Brookfield to finance companies that utilize NVIDIA products. These developments come as the company prepares to report fiscal second-quarter 2027 results on August 26.
