NVIDIA driver update blocks RTX 5000 power limit overrides

NVIDIA's latest driver update, version 615.56, appears to have blocked core power limit controls for GeForce RTX 5000-series graphics cards. Enthusiasts using the open-source utility mVolt+ have reported that attempting to input additional power or voltage values triggers a black screen, a symptom resembling a driver crash.

Previously, mVolt+ allowed users to bypass standard manufacturer constraints, enabling cards like the RTX 5090 to draw significantly more power—in some cases up to 125W of additional wattage—to achieve higher core clock speeds. This software-based method offered an alternative to risky hardware modifications like shunt mods.

It remains unclear whether NVIDIA intentionally implemented these restrictions to prevent overclocking beyond official limits or if the issue is a technical incompatibility between the new driver and mVolt+. Notably, a beta version of the Hydra 2.3 tool reportedly still maintains access to core power overrides under the same driver version.
