Nvidia expands AI footprint through massive infrastructure and startup investments

Nvidia is aggressively expanding its role in the artificial intelligence ecosystem through massive infrastructure financing and strategic investments. The company is reportedly adjusting its financial guarantee for OpenAI’s planned Ohio data center campus, known as the PORTS-Pike Technology Campus, from $250 billion to approximately $105 billion to $120 billion. This project, developed by SB Energy, aims to provide significant computing capacity and could potentially house 1.5 million GPUs.

Beyond direct infrastructure, Nvidia is diversifying its portfolio. It has agreed to a $6 billion licensing deal and a $1 billion equity investment in Poolside AI to access specialized generative models for software development. Additionally, Nvidia is in discussions to invest in the AI data labeling startup Mercor at a $20 billion valuation.

To support the broader industry, Nvidia has partnered with major financial institutions including BlackRock, Goldman Sachs, and Apollo to establish compute financing platforms. This initiative seeks to mobilize over $500 billion in third-party capital to accelerate global AI infrastructure development, treating compute capacity as a mission-critical, investable asset class.
