Nvidia faces massive GPU orders from Chinese tech giants
Major Chinese technology companies, including ByteDance, Tencent, and Alibaba, have placed orders for Nvidia graphics processing units (GPUs) totaling more than $35 billion. The orders primarily involve over 3 million units of the RTX PRO 5500, a workstation-oriented card with sufficient performance for AI data center applications.
However, there are significant concerns regarding whether Nvidia can fulfill these orders. Reports indicate that the requested volume exceeds the projected global production capacity for the RTX PRO 5500 through 2027. Consequently, deliveries may be staggered or limited by supply constraints.
The situation is further complicated by ongoing trade tensions and commercial restrictions between the United States and China, which limit the sale of high-end AI components. Additionally, a broader memory chip crisis and high demand from the artificial intelligence sector continue to impact global supply and pricing.
