NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 faces potential discontinuation

Reports indicate that the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 may be facing discontinuation or a significant supply shortage in the consumer market. Major US retailer Micro Center has reportedly updated its website to list several RTX 5090 models as ‘Not Carried’ or ‘No Longer Carried,’ a status typically indicating that a product is being removed from an active catalog and will not be restocked.

Speculation suggests this shift is driven by NVIDIA’s decision to prioritize the allocation of GB202 chips to professional RTX PRO product lines and AI accelerators. These professional-grade solutions offer higher profit margins and meet the intense demand within the artificial intelligence and data center sectors.

The impact on availability is already visible globally. In the United Kingdom, stock levels have dropped sharply, causing retail prices to soar to levels significantly higher than the original manufacturer’s suggested retail price. While NVIDIA has not issued an official statement regarding the discontinuation, industry analysts suggest a potential replacement in the form of an RTX 5080 with 24 GB of VRAM could arrive as early as 2027.
