NVIDIA GPU prices surge due to GDDR7 memory shortages
Prices for NVIDIA GeForce RTX 50-series graphics cards have seen significant increases in the Chinese market, driven by a shortage of GDDR7 memory. Reports indicate that manufacturers are prioritizing the production of HBM chips for AI accelerators, which carry higher profit margins, thereby reducing the supply of GDDR7 for consumer GPUs.
In the Huaqiangbei market, the RTX 5090 has reportedly seen prices climb from an official valuation of approximately 16,000 yuan to as high as 60,000 yuan. The RTX 5080 has also seen prices double to around 17,000 yuan. Specific models like the RTX 5080 16GB have seen increases of roughly $300, while the RTX 5070 Ti has risen by approximately $100.
Major manufacturers including ASUS and Gigabyte have implemented price hikes across various models to offset rising component costs. Additionally, rumors suggest NVIDIA may eventually replace the 16GB version of the RTX 5080 with a new 24GB capacity model, potentially as early as the first quarter of 2027.
