NVIDIA introduces Halos SAFE for autonomous vehicle safety testing
NVIDIA has unveiled Halos SAFE (Safety Assurance Framework for Evaluation), a new framework designed to unify safety testing for autonomous vehicles. Announced at the GTC event in Berlin, the system integrates simulation, real-world road testing, and fleet data into a single continuous safety loop.
The framework aims to provide traceable safety evidence by connecting software-in-the-loop (SIL) and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing with actual field data. This allows developers to measure how closely simulation results align with physical driving behavior and field performance. The scope of the framework ranges from Level 2 driver assistance systems to Level 4 robotaxis.
NVIDIA is collaborating with several industry partners on evaluation workflows, including dSPACE, IVEX, and TÜV Rheinland. Other companies involved in the ecosystem include JLR, Mercedes-Benz, Volvo Cars, and Synopsys. The system is intended to identify testing gaps by correlating scenario libraries and performance metrics with real-world outcomes.
