NVIDIA reportedly halting RTX 5090 production for professional AI chips

Reports from hardware leakers suggest NVIDIA may be discontinuing production of its flagship GeForce RTX 5090 graphics card. The GB202 silicon, which powers the 5090, is reportedly being redirected exclusively to the professional RTX PRO line to meet high demand in the AI and data center markets.

This shift follows a significant increase in the RTX 5090's market price. Originally launched in January 2025 for $1,999, the card has seen prices climb to between $4,000 and $5,000 due to supply constraints and high demand from AI companies. The discontinuation reportedly includes the China-specific RTX 5090 D variants.

As a potential replacement for the high-end consumer segment, rumors indicate a new RTX 5080 model with 24 GB of VRAM may launch in the first quarter of 2027. This model would likely utilize 3 GB GDDR7 memory modules to achieve its increased capacity. NVIDIA has not officially confirmed these production changes, though the company has already integrated its gaming business into its 'edge computing' financial segment.
