Nvidia may halt GeForce RTX 5090 production to prioritize RTX Pro series

Reports from hardware leakers suggest that Nvidia may be halting production of the GeForce RTX 5090 to prioritize its professional RTX Pro line and data center markets. The rumors claim that the GB202 Blackwell GPU, which powers the RTX 5090, will be reserved exclusively for professional-grade workstation cards such as the RTX Pro 6000, 5500, and 5000 series.

This potential strategic shift is reportedly driven by the skyrocketing demand for AI computing and rising DRAM costs. Professional cards offer significantly higher profit margins than consumer gaming hardware. If the rumors are accurate, the RTX 5090 could be replaced in the gaming segment by an updated RTX 5080 featuring 24 GB of VRAM.

While Nvidia has not officially confirmed a discontinuation, market indicators show extreme supply shortages. In Germany, retail prices for the RTX 5090 have reportedly surged to between 5,999 and 9,990 euros, far exceeding its original launch price. The company has previously stated that all GeForce RTX 50-series GPUs remain available, but industry insiders suggest the allocation of silicon is shifting toward more lucrative enterprise sectors.
