NVIDIA RTX 50 series GPU prices in Japan significantly exceed US retail rates
Retail prices for NVIDIA GeForce RTX 50 series graphics cards in Japan are significantly higher than in the United States. Reports from Tokyo PC shops indicate that certain models are priced between 5.66% and 41.15% higher than those listed on Amazon US.
Even when accounting for an estimated 8.5% US sales tax, Japanese retail prices remain up to 30.10% higher for specific models. For example, the ASUS Prime GeForce RTX 5070 Ti 16GB GDDR7 OC Edition is priced at approximately $1,693.83 in Japan, compared to $1,301.99 in the US. The RTX 5060 Ti 8GB also shows a price gap of roughly 30%.
Several factors contribute to these high costs, including the general trend of higher consumer prices in Japan compared to the US and the impact of exchange rate fluctuations. Additionally, the surge in demand for AI data centers is driving up prices for GPUs, RAM, and storage. There are also reports that NVIDIA may prioritize production for AI and professional-grade GPUs, which could lead to continued supply shortages and high prices for gaming-focused hardware.
