NVIDIA RTX 50 series graphics cards face massive price surges

The global graphics card market is experiencing significant price volatility, with NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 50 series seeing massive premiums. According to a TechSpot report covering ten countries, the flagship RTX 5090 has seen market prices surge to as much as 145% above its manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP), with retail prices in the US reaching approximately $4,900.

Mid-range and high-end models are also affected. The RTX 5070 Ti saw a global average price increase of 17% between July and August 2026. The RTX 5080 has faced criticism for poor value, as its market price has climbed toward $1,500, offering only marginal performance gains over the cheaper RTX 5070 Ti. In contrast, AMD's Radeon RX series has maintained more stable pricing, with the RX 9070 showing only a 5% increase over six months.

In response to rising costs, NVIDIA announced it would sell GeForce RTX 50 series Founders Edition cards at MSRP during the PAX West gaming exhibition, though availability is limited to existing stock.
