NVIDIA RTX 5090 faces supply uncertainty despite official denials

Discrepancies have emerged between NVIDIA’s official stance and reports from supply chain partners regarding the availability of the GeForce RTX 5090 flagship graphics card. While NVIDIA executives have stated the product is “absolutely not discontinued” and attributed shortages to supply chain constraints, hardware partners report being unable to order the necessary GB202 chip and 32GB GDDR7 memory sets.

Unlike previous supply shortages, partners claim they can no longer place backorders, a capability that was previously available during periods of high demand. This supply contraction is also reflected in the cooling component industry, where suppliers report significant reductions in orders for RTX 5090 heatsinks for the first quarter of 2027, with no orders received for the second quarter of 2027.

Industry analysts suggest that NVIDIA may be prioritizing its limited GB202 chip production for higher-margin enterprise products, such as RTX PRO professional cards and AI-related hardware, rather than consumer gaming GPUs. This shift in allocation has contributed to significant price volatility in the retail market, with some regions seeing prices rise by over 50% above initial retail estimates.
