Nvidia seeks Chinese partners to develop 6G AI‑RAN base stations
Nvidia is accelerating its entry into the telecom operator market by looking for Chinese base‑station manufacturers to co‑develop 6G AI‑RAN equipment. The company is working with Shenzhen‑based Jiaxian Communication, a provider of AI‑RAN wireless solutions, in a joint workgroup of about ten engineers located in Singapore, Hong Kong and mainland China. The collaboration, which began in 2025, uses Nvidia's CUDA ecosystem and GPU chips, while Jiaxian builds the complete base stations.
Nvidia aims to have a trial network for the 6G AI‑RAN system by 2027‑2028. A prototype base‑station is expected by the end of the current year, with commercial rollout projected within one to two years after validation. Nvidia does not manufacture full base stations itself; it supplies the processing hardware and software platform for partners to create cost‑effective, high‑performance units for overseas markets.
Separately, Tongyutong announced a 300 million RMB purchase of roughly 25% of Jiaxian Communication’s equity. Nvidia has also invested about $1 billion for a 2.9% stake in Nokia and maintains a strategic partnership with Nokia, Ericsson, T‑Mobile, Deutsche Telekom and SoftBank to develop next‑generation 6G technology.
