Nvidia to invest up to $3 billion in Lancium for AI power infrastructure

Nvidia is expanding its strategic footprint beyond semiconductors by investing up to $3 billion in Lancium, a Texas-based developer of power and land for data centers. The deal, which values Lancium at approximately $10 billion, involves an upfront $2 billion equity stake for roughly 20% ownership, with an additional $1 billion contingent on Lancium meeting specific grid interconnection milestones.

This move addresses potential bottlenecks in AI infrastructure, shifting focus from chip fabrication capacity to power availability. By securing a stake in the company managing land and grid access, Nvidia gains influence over the energy constraints that impact GPU deployment. Lancium develops the necessary infrastructure and leases sites to operators, such as those running the Stargate campus in Abilene.

In addition to the Lancium deal, Nvidia maintains significant stakes in several other technology firms, including Lumentum, CoreWeave, and Nebius. These investments in optical solutions and neocloud providers link Nvidia’s financial performance to the broader data center and AI ecosystem.
