Nvidia's 800V AI Power Solution on Track as China Unveils World's Fastest Supercomputer
Nvidia has confirmed that its 800‑volt high‑voltage DC power system for AI data centers will proceed as scheduled, with mass production slated for the third quarter of 2026. Core supply‑chain partners Delta Electronics and ABB have verified the timeline, and a limited batch of the power racks is expected to be delivered to major North American cloud operators in the fourth quarter of 2026. The 800V DC architecture is intended to cut energy loss, reduce cabling space and simplify power conversion for GPUs such as the H100, whose 350 W demand makes traditional 400 V AC systems a bottleneck. The rollout comes amid growing concerns about AI data‑center electricity use, highlighted by Maine’s proposal to ban large new facilities.
Separately, China’s National Supercomputing Center in Shenzhen has deployed the "LineShine" system, achieving a sustained performance of 2.19 exaflops (219 billion billion floating‑point operations per second). Presented at the ISC26 conference in Hamburg, the system topped the TOP500 list, overtaking the United States' "El Capitan" and marking the first exascale machine built under U.S. chip‑export restrictions. LineShine’s record speed underscores China’s rapid progress in high‑performance computing despite geopolitical constraints.
