NY Mayor Zohran Mamdani Highlights Dominican Parade and Signature Suit Style

Mayor Zohran Mamdani took part in the 37th annual Dominican Parade in the Bronx, joining community leaders, elected officials, and members of the Dominican diaspora along Grand Concourse. The event, organized since 1989, featured marching bands, folklore groups, youth and sports clubs, and honored several community figures, including entrepreneur Roberto Rojas and cultural ambassadors such as Vickiana. Mamdani was listed among the honorary marshals, underscoring the Dominican community’s influence in New York City’s social and cultural life.

In parallel, Mamdani’s habit of wearing a formal suit in unconventional settings has drawn public attention. He has been photographed in his trademark dark suit while participating in activities ranging from cheerleading at Madison Square Garden and joining the Polar Bear Club to swimming in a pool. He says the attire symbolizes his commitment and seeks to blend professionalism with approachability, challenging typical expectations of political dress.

Both the parade participation and the distinctive sartorial choice illustrate Mamdani’s strategy to connect with diverse constituencies while maintaining a consistent public image.
