NY Supreme Court Orders Deerfield to Approve PathStone Housing
Oneida County Supreme Court Justice Louis P. Gigliotti issued a 30‑page decision overturning the Town of Deerfield’s resolution that blocked a 65‑unit workforce housing project proposed by PathStone Development Corporation. The judge ordered the town to issue the building permit within 30 days of formal service.
The development, to be built on about 6.8 acres at Mulaney Road and Horatio Street near SUNY Polytechnic Institute, will include 65 affordable apartments and a 7,800‑square‑foot childcare center. Funding relies on federal low‑income housing tax credits and a grant from New York State’s Empire State Development. The ruling follows months of public meetings and opposition from some residents who questioned the suitability of the rural site for a large affordable‑housing project.
