NY teen arrested in series of motorcycle gold‑jewelry robberies
New York Police Department announced the arrest of a 17‑year‑old male suspected of taking part in a wave of street robberies carried out on lightweight motorcycles. Between mid‑June and mid‑July the suspects, operating in groups of two to three, rode black, blue or green‑rimmed bikes through Queens neighborhoods such as Flushing, Astoria, Williamsburg and Greenpoint, forcibly snatching gold necklaces, purses and headphones from victims. Police say at least 29 incidents fitting this pattern have been recorded, with some robberies involving threats of firearms.
The captured teen is linked to several of the attacks, and investigators continue to seek additional suspects. NYPD advises the public to stay alert in crowded areas, avoid displaying valuable jewelry, and call 911 if targeted, emphasizing personal safety over property protection.
