NY Waterway ferry strikes pier, shatters windows near Belford

The Molly Pitcher ferry, operated by NY Waterway, struck a pier's banking system while departing the Belford Ferry Terminal on Tuesday morning around 6:30 a.m. The collision shattered several windows and caused plexiglass to scatter throughout the vessel.

Passengers reported that the crew directed them to the second deck for the remainder of the commute. Despite the damage, the ferry continued its journey to Manhattan. Passengers expressed concern regarding the decision to proceed with the trip without re-docking or conducting an immediate inspection.

NY Waterway stated that no injuries requiring medical attention were reported by passengers or crew. The company apologized for the incident and indicated that the damaged windows were expected to be repaired by the end of the day. Monmouth County officials noted they were informed of the incident by passengers rather than the ferry operator.
