Nyborg City Council approves hearing for luxury housing development

The Nyborg City Council has approved an eight-week hearing process for a local plan that could lead to the demolition of the historic Sølyst building. The proposal aims to make way for 66 new luxury residences overlooking Nyborg Fjord.

Martin Stenmann, chairman of the technical, planning, and rural affairs committee, argued that the new construction provides more value to the city than the current neglected property. While acknowledging the “irreversible loss of architectural and cultural-historical values,” proponents suggest the project will aid coastal protection, attract new residents, and strengthen the local economy.

The decision was reached by a majority consisting of the Social Democrats, Venstre, and Liberal Alliance, despite opposition from the Conservative, SF, and Danish People's Party groups.
