Nyborg Municipality announces budget cuts due to rising welfare costs

Nyborg Municipality is facing increasing budgetary pressures, leading to significant planned cuts and efficiency measures. Following a new 2026 budget that included 79 million DKK in savings, further economic adjustments are required for the period between 2027 and 2030.

Administrators attribute these rising costs to increased expenditures in social transfers, including sickness benefits, unemployment benefits, senior pensions, and disability pensions. To address the deficit, the municipality has commissioned the auditing firm BDO to develop a 70-page “possibility catalog” to identify potential savings and efficiencies.

Political disagreements have also emerged regarding the allocation of funds for 2026. While a majority supports investing 40 million DKK into land acquisition and infrastructure to support the municipality's settlement strategy in Nyborg, the Socialist People's Party (SF) and the Conservative People's Party have voted against the proposal.
