NYC-DSA leaders face scrutiny over personal wealth and real estate

Leaders of the New York City Democratic Socialists of America (NYC-DSA) are facing scrutiny over discrepancies between their political advocacy for the working class and their personal wealth and real estate holdings.

NYC-DSA co-chair Gustavo Gordillo has come under fire following reports that he lives in a $1.5 million Bed-Stuy townhouse provided by his family, despite presenting a persona rooted in working-class immigrant struggles. Activists, including civil rights leader Rev. Kevin McCall, recently gathered outside his residence to demand his resignation, citing a lack of authenticity regarding his background.

Other high-ranking members of the organization have also faced criticism. Steering committee chair Julie Swoope reportedly owns a $510,000 co-op in Brooklyn, while labor coordinator Olivia Gonzalez Killingsworth previously sold a $2.4 million triplex in the Upper West Side. These revelations have sparked debate regarding the leadership's connection to the socioeconomic issues they champion.
