NYC Mayor Mamdani Targets E‑Bike Sellers, DSA Member Faces Debate on Socialism

Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani of New York City issued cease‑and‑desist orders to 42 online retailers, including major platforms such as Target, Walmart and Wayfair, demanding they stop selling e‑bikes that exceed the city’s speed, weight and safety limits. The orders apply to sales within 175 ZIP codes and give retailers until August 18 to comply, as the city seeks to curb a rise in pedestrian fatalities linked to high‑speed e‑bikes.

Separately, Daniel Di Martino, a Venezuelan immigrant and fellow at the Manhattan Institute, appeared on Fox News’ “The Story” to debate Democratic Socialists of America member Frances Gillon. Di Martino criticized the practicality of socialism, citing U.S. government‑run enterprises such as the VA, Amtrak and the USPS, and highlighted the situation in Venezuela under Nicolás Maduro and U.S. sanctions. The exchange underscored the ideological clash between the DSA and critics of socialist policies.
