NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani Calls for Abolition of ICE

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani reiterated his demand that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) be abolished, stating the agency’s practices are fundamentally cruel and cannot be reformed.

Mamdani referenced reports of a hunger strike at the Delaney detention facility in New Jersey, saying the conditions there underscore the need to dismantle ICE.

He defended New York’s sanctuary‑city policies, pledged to keep city agencies from cooperating with ICE, and dismissed concerns that abolition rhetoric might hurt Democratic political prospects.
