NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani condemns AIPAC as “monsters” at Brooklyn rally

At a “Get Out the Vote” event in Brooklyn’s Kings Theatre, held ahead of New York’s Democratic primaries, Mayor Zohran Mamdani denounced the American‑Israeli Committee for Public Affairs (AIPAC) as “monsters,” accusing it of pouring “millions of dollars of non‑transparent money” into U.S. elections to sustain the genocide in Gaza. He urged support for progressive candidates Brad Lander, state Assemblymember Claire Valdez and activist Darializa Avila Chevalier. Senator Bernie Sanders echoed Mamdani’s criticism, saying "the American people understand that a large part of our disastrous foreign policy is influenced by AIPAC funding."

The mayor noted that earlier in the year AIPAC and allied pro‑Israeli groups spent more than $9 million to defeat Republican Congressman Thomas Massie in a Kentucky primary, making it the costliest House primary in history with total spending of $32 million. In response, Massie introduced legislation to require AIPAC to register as a foreign agent.
