NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani faces backlash over immigrant map omitting Little Italy

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s office released a “New York City Immigrant Enclaves” map that highlights about 30 ethnic neighborhoods, including several Muslim and Asian communities, but excludes historic European districts such as Little Italy, Irish and Jewish neighborhoods. The omission sparked accusations of “cultural erasure” from the Italian American Civil Rights League and other community leaders, who demanded an apology and immediate inclusion of Little Italy.
