House GOP Calls for DOJ Probe of NYC Mayor Mamdani Over Iran Meeting

U.S. House Republicans, led by Rep. Addison McDowell of North Carolina, sent a letter to Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche requesting a Department of Justice investigation into New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s administration. The inquiry focuses on a July 7 meeting that Commissioner Ana María Archila scheduled with Iran’s United Nations ambassador, Amir‑Saeid Iravani, which was cancelled after State Department intervention. Republicans allege the meeting may have violated the Logan Act, which bars unauthorized private diplomacy, and could pose national‑security risks and a conflict of interest with U.S. strategic interests in the Middle East. The letter was signed by more than a dozen GOP members from states including Colorado, Georgia, Texas, Florida, Ohio and West Virginia, urging the DOJ to determine whether any unlawful communications occurred.
