NYC Parks worker arrested after fireworks accident injures child

A 24-year-old New York City Parks Department employee, Joshua Moe, has been arrested following a fireworks accident that resulted in a 10-year-old girl losing several fingers.

The incident occurred Tuesday evening at General Douglas MacArthur Park in Staten Island. According to authorities, the child discovered an M-80 firework in a park restroom and showed it to Moe. Investigators state that Moe helped light the firework for the child before it detonated.

Police responded to the scene and found the girl with catastrophic injuries to her left hand. She was treated with a tourniquet and transported to Staten Island University Hospital, where she was listed in stable condition.

Moe has been charged with reckless endangerment and endangering the welfare of a child. He was arraigned in criminal court on Staten Island and has been granted supervised release while the investigation continues.
